📖 Sermon — Exodus 3–4: Obeying God When You Feel Inadequate

1️⃣ Point 1 — God’s Calling Does Not Depend on Our Abilities

Moses encounters God in the burning bush and is called to lead Israel out of Egypt . But Moses immediately responds with five forms of refusal, rooted in fear, past failure, and feelings of inadequacy:

“Who am I?”
“I’m not eloquent” (possibly a speech impediment or lost fluency)
“Please send someone else”

The preacher explains that Moses’ past failures (killing the Egyptian, being rejected by Hebrews, fleeing Egypt) deepen his insecurity .

God’s response is consistent: “I will be with you.” God does not boost Moses’ confidence by praising his abilities — He simply promises His presence .

The sermon applies this to everyday callings: leading family, serving at church, inviting coworkers, reconciling relationships — all places where believers often say “I’m not good enough” .

2️⃣ Point 2 — Obedience Can Begin Before Every Doubt Is Resolved

When Moses refuses outright (“Send someone else”), God becomes angry yet remains gracious, providing Aaron as a helper rather than removing the calling . God does not eliminate Moses’ weaknesses; He simply equips him to obey.

The preacher emphasizes:

God rarely removes the difficulty.
God rarely removes the weakness.
God gives just enough for the next step — not the whole plan.

Examples include making a phone call, apologizing, beginning to serve, or taking one small step toward obedience even when unsure how it will turn out .

3️⃣ Point 3 — God Uses What You Already Have

God tells Moses to take the staff already in his hand — a symbol of his 40 years of disappointment and obscurity as a shepherd . God will use that unimpressive staff to perform miracles:

water from the rock
Nile turned to blood
Red Sea parted

The preacher explains: Moses is the staff. We are the staff. God uses unimpressive people so that all glory goes to Him, not human strength .

🌟 Main Point / Gospel Connection

God doesn’t call us because we are enough — He calls us to trust that He is enough. His name “I AM WHO I AM” reveals His self‑sufficiency, power, and presence, giving believers confidence to obey even when they feel weak or unqualified .
