1️⃣ Good Convictions Go Bad When They Become Standards for Others

Paul addresses disputes in the Roman church about food laws and holy days .

Two groups:

• Those who eat anything

• Those who eat only vegetables (trying to honor God through dietary restrictions) .

Paul’s command: Do not judge one another  .

Pastor Daniel explains how modern Christians do the same:

• Radical Christians judging “lukewarm” ones

• Social justice Christians judging quiet servants

• Culture‑war Christians judging apolitical believers

• Anti‑materialism Christians judging those with nicer things .

Key insight: The problem isn’t convictions—it’s turning your convictions into the standard for everyone else.

2️⃣ Good Convictions Go Bad When They Produce Judgment Instead of Welcome

Paul asks: “Why do you judge? Why do you despise?”  .

Convictions should produce:

• Worship

• Praise

• Humility Not:

• Superiority

• Division

• Contempt .

Pastor Daniel shares personal stories of how his “hardcore” faith once made him prideful and judgmental .

3️⃣ The Gospel Calls Us to Welcome, Not Judge

The key word in Romans 14:1 is “welcome”  .

Tolerance says: I’ll leave you alone.  Love says: I’ll make room for you.  .

Pastor Daniel describes how SBMC grew healthier when people welcomed those with different backgrounds and convictions .

Christ welcomed us while we were still sinners, not after we met His standards .

Convictions become legalism when we use them to judge others instead of welcoming them. Christ welcomed us first—so we must welcome one another.
